Ineverybody had a hard year, and everybody had a good time. It was a year in which history seemed to be tripping over itself -- the moon landing, Woodstock and Altamont and the disintegration of the Beatles. In Januarythe group gathered to record what would eventually see release in as the film and soundtrack album Let It Be.
W hen Let It Be appeared as ostensibly the final Beatles album in Mayeven though it had been recorded before 's Abbey Road, it was widely dismissed as a dog's dinner, criminally unworthy of the Moptop legacy. Blame was heaped on eccentric producer Phil Spector, who had been invited by John Lennon to pore over the tapes after the Beatles had rejected two test pressings assembled by Glyn Johns. Spector, given only a few weeks to produce a finished product to tie in with the release of a documentary film provisionally entitled Get Back eventually also called Let It Beresponded by submerging the material in a treacly swamp of sound, with I Me Mine, The Long and Winding Road and Across the Universe bearing the brunt of his odious Mantovani-isation.
Or some such convoluted story. All these years after the fact, what is clear is that The Beatles were special mainly because they were dedicated to producing things nobody else could. These songs, the band's persona, the stances they took and lessons learned in front of the camera weren't just the exploits of a popular band, but live memoirs of the spiritual, artistic and disciplined Ideal.

Let It Be Naked is a album by The Beatles. The project was overseen by Paul McCartneywho felt that Phil Spector 's production did not accurately represent the group's "stripped-down" intentions for the original album. Naked presents the songs "naked" — without Spector's overdubs and without the incidental studio chatter featured between most cuts of the original album.
